Welcome Back!
Dear Old Bethpage Families,
On behalf of the PTA Executive Board, I would like to welcome everyone back to school (yes, it is still August but we’re getting close).  This year the Old Bethpage PTA is “Going Green” and almost all flyers, meeting notices and information will be sent through our email system and posted on our website at oldbethpagepta.org.  We will no longer be sending information through backpacks and therefore it will be important for you to read your emails and check our website regularly so that you don’t miss anything.   In the coming weeks the website will be “revamped” with new “PTA this Week”  and “PTA Coming Soon” sections that will allow you to readily access information regarding upcoming events.
Over the summer the PTA Executive Board has been hard at work planning for an amazing 2011/2012 school year.  We will kick off the school year with our PTA meeting on Tuesday, September 13th at 7:30pm.  Be sure to come early (7:00pm) to sign up for committees that you would like to be a part of this year.  Thursday, September 15th is “Back to School Night” at which we will have new styles of Old Bethpage school t-shirts and memo pads.  Mark your calendars for Friday evening, October 14th for our 2nd annual Fall Festival.  We will have a DJ, pumpkin decorating, crafts, games and snacks for you and your family to enjoy (and its free)!  Another exciting event this Fall will be our WOW week from November 14th to 23rd.  Together with Mrs. Gray, our PTA has designed a PARP-like program to enhance our school’s writing curriculum by bringing in nationally recognized writing instructors and focussing the children on their writing skills during this special week.  There will be lots of opportunity for you to get involved with your children so please be on the look out for more information on WOW week.
Finally, please take a moment to join PTA when you receive your membership application in the school mailing next week.  As illustrated above, PTA plays a crucial role in our school community and your membership and support are vital to our ability to provide programing for our students. This year we are again offering the Old Bethpage magnets for an additional $2 with your membership. Moreover, our goal is to have every adult member of your family join PTA and we will provide a free magnet to those families with two memberships (while supplies last).
I hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer and I look forward to working together with you this year.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Laura Fox
Old Bethpage PTA President
